We complement your team. We do not replace it.
Your trusted specialist planners stay. We join where you lack know-how or capacity: for a specialist topic, a peak or a clearly defined task. You stay in charge. We familiarise ourselves with your structures and keep your management effort low.
Why sedc
What you can expect from us.
- Laboratory and building services from a single source
At sedc, laboratory planning and building services planning are done by the same experts. That saves interfaces, and you have one point of contact instead of two.
- Experience from pharma, life sciences and biotech
Our experience comes mainly from technically demanding projects in pharma, life sciences, biotech and industry. There, availability, regulatory requirements and clean interfaces are what count. One example: 48 laboratory conversions in the research building of a pharmaceutical group in Basel, each one during ongoing operation.
- Identifying and resolving interfaces
We do not just identify clashes in the drawings. We work out practicable solutions and instruct the trades involved. And we ask when something is unclear, even when it gets uncomfortable.
- Clearly defined responsibility
We take on defined areas of responsibility in MEP and I&C/BMS and integrate in a structured way into existing planning teams. The goal: support without additional management effort for your project team.
- Short lines of communication
sedc is an owner-managed engineering consultancy in Basel with 11 people. An engineering firm run as a workshop, not as a mass operation. You speak directly with the people who do the planning.
Getting started
Three ways to start small.
Technical concept review (second opinion)
“Does the building services concept hold up before we hand it on or put it out to tender?”
- Scope
- We review your existing building services concept for plausibility, quality and cost efficiency, in the sense of design to cost. A clearly defined assignment based on your documents.
- Result
- Review report with a traffic-light rating per topic and a prioritised list of measures.
GMP and cleanroom interface check
“Do laboratory, cleanroom and building services fit together before planning continues?”
- Scope
- We review the interfaces between laboratory and cleanroom requirements and the building services: zones, pressure cascades, ventilation and media.
- Result
- Overview of open interfaces with recommendations, aligned with the zoning and pressure cascade concept.
Defined planning or support package
“We lack capacity for one trade or one phase. Who will take it on reliably?”
- Scope
- We take on a clearly defined part: a trade such as HVAC, electrical or I&C/BMS, a phase, or the building services technical coordination. We agree scope, interfaces and deadlines together beforehand.
- Result
- The agreed planning deliverables for the phase, for example concepts and schematics, construction drawings or tender documents.

Our roles in your team
Frequently asked questions
What general planners ask us.
Will you replace our existing specialist planners?
No. We complement your planning partners on specialist topics, capacity peaks and clearly defined tasks. You decide where we work.
Can you take on just a single trade or phase?
Yes. A clearly defined package is a common way to start, for example one trade, one phase or the building services technical coordination. We put the scope in writing before the start.
How do we handle contract, liability and insurance?
We agree this with you for each assignment, in line with your contract with the client. We clarify supplier qualification and confidentiality before the first deployment. We are happy to answer specific questions in the initial meeting.
Will you deal directly with our client?
Only in the way you agree with us. Where an assignment requires the client's consent, we coordinate this with you beforehand.
