Since 2003, sedc has planned, managed and advised on around 680 projects – from a single laboratory room to a new building with a construction cost of around CHF 250 million. Every project has taught us something. Here is what we have learnt from them – and where we have proven it.

01 Experience

Laboratories that work from day one.

A laboratory is a machine made of space, furniture, media and air. We plan them together – from the fume cupboard and the gas supply to the ventilation that makes the fume cupboard safe in the first place.

Task: A new research and laboratory building with laboratories for highly potent substances. For the critical trades, the client needed expert representation on its side.
Solution: Client representation for ventilation, chilled water, heating and the laboratories for highly potent substances; plus planning and qualification of the laminar flow units.
Result: After occupancy, six fit-outs followed under the framework mandate – trust that extends beyond the new building.

Building while work goes on.

Research, hospitals and data centres do not stand still just because we are converting. We plan stages, temporary installations and switchovers so that operations barely notice.

Task: A high-rise with a hotel and offices was occupied after handover – and technically unfinished. Thousands of open items, while guests and staff were in the building.
Solution: Project management, building services technical coordination and MEP/BMS site supervision: defects recorded, prioritised and worked through trade by trade.
Result: Completion and technical refurbishment during ongoing hotel and office operation.

04 Experience

Less energy, less CO₂.

The biggest savings lie in existing systems: lower temperatures, recovered waste heat, properly controlled ventilation. We calculate them, plan them and implement them in operation.

7Research buildings

Task: Research and laboratory buildings on a campus were to be converted to a low-temperature network – without interrupting research operations.
Solution: Building-by-building conversion of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (buildings 65, 68–70, 92 and 93) and retrofitting of heat recovery on the ventilation systems of building 72.
Result: CO₂ reductions of up to 95 %.

The team rescued our construction project!
On our large campus project, we faced considerable problems with the building services. sedc ag was recommended to us and proved to be an absolute stroke of luck. The team analysed the situation neutrally and competently, identified the problems and developed concrete remedial measures. On our Baloise Park project, we were facing thousands of defects – a challenge we could not have handled on our own. Following a tender, sedc ag was awarded the contract. Our joint focus on professionalism, speed and structured processing has proven its worth to this day. The path we chose was absolutely right – the success of our collaboration proves it!

We were looking for experts in performance testing and HVAC systems – sedc ag came highly recommended. Even in the first meetings, the team impressed us with its extensive experience in laboratory stress testing. The collaboration was very easy from the outset, as we were on the same wavelength.
